The PNW has some great surf to be had. I tend to keep my road trips local to Oregon; making drives to Agate Beach, Otter Rock, Lincoln City, Pacific City and Short Sands. The offer was given to me to jump into a buddies car and head North into Washington to Olympic National Park for some change of coastal scenery.
Blair, who is an Oshkosh, WI native; invited me to cruise up North with him to meet up with our buddy Spencer in Olympic National Park for some coastal camping and surfing. Spencer, also an Oshkosh native that relocated to WA to shape surfboards for Lib Tech was heading up to Alaska for fishing season and his pups Poncho was going to be heading back to Bend, OR with us while Spencer was away fishing.
The trip started on a Friday after work loading up a CVT tent, boards, brews and other camping necessities. The 9 hour journey was a full send of Led Zeppelin and bad dad jokes. . The campsite was all time! It was on the Makah Indian reservation in Northern WA just across the peninsula to BC Canada which could be seen from our site.
The following days of the trip entailed bonfires, hiking, skating and untouched Surf at Shi-Shi Beach. Shi-Shi was near the Makah reservation and to access the beach was no joke. We had to pack in food, water, and strap our boards to our backs as we made our way through the dense muddy trail that eventually welcomed us to Shi-Shi. This place is truly a PNW gem when it comes to pristine uncrowded waves.
After 4 days of waves and smelling like bonfire; Blair and I headed back home to Bend, of course with Poncho as our third musketeer for the road trip home. Here is Blair and Poncho making the trek back to the trailhead after a full days session. I had the chance to quickly turn around and snap this shot. Much love for WA and the waves that is has to offer. This beach was a true representation of the PNW surf experience.
